Tips for Hotel Staff
When staying at small hotels or villas, it’s customary to leave a tip, either during your stay or at the time of departure. Many guests prefer handing a combined tip to a senior staff member to share among the team, and many hotels also provide a tip box. Even at larger properties, tips are valued and appreciated. As a guide, Rs. 1,500 – 2,500 per day (about USD 5) is a fair amount, though you may adjust this depending on your experience and generosity.
Tips in Restaurants
Most restaurants already include a 10% service charge in the bill, so it’s good to check first. In smaller local eateries, where service charges are not usually added, leaving a small tip of up to Rs. 500 (around USD 1.50) is a kind gesture.
